JPS Atelier completed the design and development of ML House, a villa especially built for a young couple and their two children. Located in Caxias, Portugal, the residence displays a modern white facade with black-framed protruding windows on the second and third level. Horizontal louvers complete the geometry of the street facade, ensuring a high level of privacy. A wooden deck surrounds the swimming pool, which seems to visually expand into the living area. Madrid-based studio ÁBATON has completed the Casa del Pico project, a 3,143 square foot two story residence in . The idea of two structures floating on rock was possible because of the granite on the land. The bottom of the swimming pool is irregular imitating the shape of the granite on which it stands. The ground floor was designed to be more in touch with the outside and the garden. The upstairs area, where the sitting room and children’s area are situated, overlooks the swimming pool. The terrace, which is above the sitting room, offers views over the mountain range and the city and it has a wide stone bench which serves as a defence wall. Each area of the house is different because of the changing levels of floors and ceilings. The rooftop terrace over the living room boasts views of the mountains and city and comes with a giant built-in bench which additionally acts as a barrier. Changes in usage within open-plan areas are punctuated by differing ceiling or floor heights. Continue reading »

This house in the Valparaiso Region of Chile, from Santiago-based LAND Arquitectos, swings forcefully in the other direction. Rather than fill a beautiful home up with knickknacks, minimalist decor is able to let the building’s angles and views shine.
